Three note fakers arrested with forged Tk 20 lakhs in city

Police have arrested three note counterfeiters and seized forged notes worth Tk 20 lakhs and various tools used for manufacturing the fake notes in the city’s Kamrangirchar.

The arrestees have been identified as Suman, 38, Sultana, 28 and Hanif Gazi, 48.

On information, a team of the Kamrangirchar Police Station raided Madbar Bazar area on Thursday and recovered fake notes worth Tk 4 lakhs from the possession of the arrested counterfeiters.

Police also seized fake currencies and equipment of producing fake notes worth about Tk 16 lakhs in line with their confession, conducting another drive at Siddhirgang of Narayanganj district on the outskirts of Dhaka.

These notes were in 1,000 and 500 taka denominations. The cops also found partially printed 1,000 taka notes worth Tk 9.76 lakhs.

The cops recovered materials used for producing fake notes included a computer, a colour printer, some particular papers, sticky gum and chemicals.

The law enforcers shown them arrested in a case filed with the Kamrangirchar Police Station under the Special Powers Act, 1974.

The trio was produced before a court while it granted a two-day remand.

According to police sources, there are multiple cases against the arrested persons in various police stations across the country including the capital for their involvement in manufacturing and selling fake currencies. (BSS)
