196 more arrested in DMP’s combing operation

In a combing operation at different parts of
the capital city, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) netted 196 more crime
suspects in the last 24 hours from Thursday midnight.

During the operation, the DMP conducted 667 patrol teams and 71 check posts
to maintain law and order and public safety, said a DMP statement issued here
today.

The arrested include 24 professional active robbers, three extortionists,
eight thieves, 14 drug dealers and 27 wanted in previous cases.

A samurai, three knives, two machetes, a switchgear, five iron rods, three
laptops, 20 tins, a private car and Taka 103,000 in cash used in various
crimes were seized during the operation.

In addition, the illegal drugs seized include 10,320 pieces of yaba, 465
grams of marijuana, seven grams of heroin and four norphen injections.

Fifty seven cases were registered against the arrestees with different police
stations of the DMP in these connections.

As part of the commitment of ensuring overall security and smooth movement of
the people in the capital city, check posts and patrol activities have been
increased.

According to the Crime Command and Control Center of the DMP, 667 patrol
teams performed duties in two shifts for public safety in 50 police stations
of DMP from 12:01am to 11:59pm on Friday.

Out of these, 340 teams performed duties at night and 327 teams during the
day. The patrol teams include 479 mobile patrol teams, 73 foot patrol teams
and 115 motorbike patrol teams.

In addition, 71 police check posts are being operated by the DMP at various
important and strategic locations to enhance security in the metropolitan
