DMP asks drivers of govt transports to obey traffic laws

The Traffic Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has asked the drivers of the public transports to abide by the laws to restore discipline on the roads.

Despite the DMP has been working tirelessly to keep traffic in Dhaka city normal, it is often observed that drivers of government vehicles are violating traffic laws that included disobeying signals, driving on the wrong side, parking in any place, etc, a said police statement issued tonight.

“This is creating a bad precedent and encouraging drivers of other vehicles to breach the traffic laws,” it said.

As a result, the challenge of restoring traffic discipline in Dhaka city is increasing, it continued.

In many cases, drivers of government vehicles misbehave with traffic police personnel while they are enforcing the law, resulting in criminal action, it said.

“In such a situation, drivers of all government vehicles are specially requested to obey the traffic laws properly to restore traffic discipline in Dhaka city,” the statement said.

Otherwise, DMP will take stern legal action against public transports/drivers for violating the Road Transport Act, 2018.

The DMP has sought cooperation of all government officials and vehicle drivers in this regard. (BSS)
