‘Inclusive efforts crucial to save youths from drug abuse’

An inclusive effort by all concerned to create
social awareness and resistance against drugs has become crucial to protect
the youth and young generation from the dire consequences of drug abuse.

The observation came at a daylong divisional level workshop on ‘Our Role in
Preventing Drug Abuse’ held today at the conference room of the Deputy
Commissioner in the city.

The Divisional Commissioner’s Office and Department of Narcotics Control
(DNC) jointly organised the event to discuss and work out ways and means for
creating adequate social awareness and resistance against drug abuse.

Officials of the district level civil and police administrations, health,
education and youth development departments, public representatives, civil
society members and journalists from all eight districts of Rangpur division
participated in the event.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan attended the workshop as the
chief guest with Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen in
the chair.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Mohd Abdul
Alim Mahmud and Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nure Alam Mina
addressed as special guests.

Divisional Additional Director of the DNC Md Ali Aslam Hossin delivered a
welcome speech narrating the present drug abuse situation and steps and
programs taken by the government to implement zero tolerance policy against
drug abuse.

Divided in separate groups, the participants worked out suggestions and ways
to resist drug abuse and save the young generation and youths from the
dreadful consequences of it.

The speakers expressed concern over the drug abuse situation and urged all
local government institutions, public and private bodies and non-governmental
organisations to come forward and work together to resist drug abuse.

They highly lauded the government for taking a zero tolerance stance against
drug abuse to protect young generations and youths from the clutches of drug
addiction that also lead them towards committing social crimes ruining their
future.

The chief guest stressed on creating social awareness against drug abuse to
eliminate the social disease for building a healthy society to achieve the
sustainable development goals for building a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

“The movement against drug abuse should be further strengthened with complete
support of communities, public representatives and social leaders for freeing
the society from abuse of drugs, its illicit trafficking and trade,” he
