Panchagarh sees full-swing Boro cultivation

Boro cultivation is going on in full-swing in all five upazilas of the district as the farmers are now passing busy time for transplanting seedlings on lands.

The farmers are encouraged for massive Boro cultivation as they got fair price of Aman paddy this time.

The paddy straw has a huge demand as it is used as fodder for the cattle.

Farmers also sold Aman paddy straw from one bigha (33 decimal) of land at least 4 thousands Taka.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set a target of bringing 30,125 hectares of land under Boro cultivation in the district with the production target of 1,33,755 tonnes of food grains this season.

The DAE has supplied high quality Boro seeds, necessary fertilizers and other agriculture inputs to the farmers free of cost for boosting production.

The government’s agriculture department has also given Hybrid Boro seeds to some farmers for demonstration plot.

Deputy Director of DAE Naimul Huda told BSS that the Boro cultivation target may exceed this year.

He said the farmers will get training on modern methods of cultivation to achieve the production target.

The field level officer will monitor the Boro paddy field and provide necessary advice to the farmers.

The agriculture department is expecting bumper Boro production as well due to no shortage of fertilizers and available irrigation opportunity. (BSS)
