Tigresses fail to create history in South Africa

Bangladesh Women’s team failed to create a history in South Africa after tasting a thumping 216-run defeat in the third and
final ODI at Benoni on Saturday.

After drawing the three-match T20 series 1-1, the visitors won the three-
match ODI series opener by 119 runs, which was their first ever victory in
ODI format on South African soil. They though lost the second game by eight
wickets, there was a chance to create a history to seal the series for the
first time by winning the third match.

But they were completely outclassed by a ruthless South African side which
posted 316-4 with openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits sharing a record
243-run for the opening stand. Captain Wolvaardt hammered 126 off 134 with 13
fours and one six while Brits hit 124 ball-118, smashing eight fours and two
sixes.

Sune Luus smacked 17 ball-34 and Anneke Bosch scored 28 off 19 to push the
total past 300.

Rabeya Khan took 2-49 for Bangladesh, which never raised a hope to overhaul
such huge target. Rather they were skittled out for 100 in 31.1 overs,
failing to put up a minimum resistance. Ritu Moni with 33 was the top-scorer
for the side.

Despite the defeat, Bangladesh Women’s team ended a fruitful year which saw
them won a series against Pakistan and draw against India at home in both T20
and ODI format. They also won Bronze Asian Games. (BSS)
