Strengthening family planning activities among capable couples underscored

Speakers at a function here today underscored the need for strengthening family planning activities among the capable couple to check population growth of the country.

As, the country’s population is in increasing tendency, there is no alternative to build a planned family considering the size of the country, its location, population, natural resources, environment and socio-economic situation, .

In this context, all eligible couples should be brought under family planning methods side by side with conducting awareness campaign regarding the family planning to community people”, they also said.

They made the comments while addressing a function on introducing family planning facilitators and performance review meeting at the conference room of a local NGO Gana Unnayan Kendra at Nashratpur under Sadar upazila here this noon.

Department of Family Planning arranged the function in association with UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund).

Director (Finance) and Line director (Family Planning-Field Services Delivery) M Sohel Parvez attended the function and addressed as chief guest while deputy director of department of family planning Prosenjeet Pronoy Misra spoke at the function as special guest while director of the Department of Family Planning, Rangpur division, Dewan Morshed Kamal presided over the ceremony.

The speakers in their speeches emphasized for popularizing the seven methods including modern one among the capable couples of the country to check the population growth.
In this regard, they urged the field level staff of the department to be more serious to attain the cherished goals of the department.

A number of recommendations regarding the intensification of family planning activities in the district were also adopted from the open discussion where many of the participants took part in it.

Chief guest Sohel Parvez said the couples having reproductive capacity need to be motivated and at the same time, steps should be taken to reach family planning services at their doorsteps properly anyhow.

He also sought wholehearted cooperation from all stakeholders including public representatives, journalists teachers and social workers, of the society to gear up the family planning activities till grass root level side by side with reducing child mortality rate including early marriage to form a welfare state and help the government to build Smart Bangladesh by 2041, a far sighted vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, a power point presentation was done by deputy program manager of family planning-Field Services Delivery Mohammad Joynul Abedin Nishad.

There are 27, 14, 526 populations in the district. Of them, the number of eligible couple is 5, 59, 351 and the rate of contraceptive use in the district is 80.71 percent, sources said. (BSS)
