Forward Mohammad Ibrahim scored a brace as Abahani
Limited Dhaka blanked Chittagong Abahani Limited by 4-0 goals in the lone
match of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan
Stadium in Mymensingh on Saturday.
Apart from Ibrahim’s two goals in the match, midfielders Enamul Islam Gazi
and Asadul Molla supported him with a lone goal each for Dhaka Abahani in the
one-sided affairs.
The winners’ led the first half by 1-0 goal.
Chittagong Abahani, who lost all their seven matches of the league, however
fought neck to neck almost the first half securing the score sheet clean
though Ibrahim finally broke the deadlock for Dhaka Abahani through a spot
kick in the 42nd minute.
After the breather, Dhaka Abahani came out strongly and scored three more
goals in the second half.
Gazi doubled the lead scoring the second goal for Abahani Limited in the 51st
minute while Ibrahim further widened the margin scoring his second and third
goal for Abahani in the 66th minute of the match.
Mollah completed the winners’ tally scoring the fourth goal for Abahani
Limited in the 71st minute of the match.
Abahani completely dominated the proceeding, especially in the second half,
and notched their deserving victory on the day while Chittagong Abahani were
totally off-colored.
The day’s win saw the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited
moved to second position in the league table with 16 points from seven
matches while the port city team Chittagong Abahani, yet to open their
account playing the same number of matches.
Dhaka Abahani will play their next match against Rahmatganj Muslim and
Friends Society on January 18 while Chittagong Abahani will meet Bangladesh
Police Football Club on January 17.
Earlier, Abahani Limited Dhaka beat Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by 2-0 goals
in their league opening match, edged past Dhaka Wanderers Club by 1-0 goal in
their second match, lost to arch rival Mohammedan by 1-0 goal and defeated
holders Bashundhara Kings by 1-0 goal beat Bangladesh Police Football Club by
2-0 goals and played out to a goalless draw with Fortis Football Club.
While Chittagong Abahani earlier suffered 0-7 to Bashundhara Kings, lost
their remaining three matches against Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society,
Brothers Union Club and Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by an identical margin
of 2-0 goals, suffered 1-0 defeat to Dhaka Wanderers Club and went down 5-1
defeat to Mohammedan. (BSS)
