RMP ready to follow EC’s 100pc instructions in Harian UP polls: commissioner

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) will carry out 100 percent instructions of the Election Commission (EC) in the upcoming polls of Harian Union Parishad (UP) under Paba Upazila in the district.

“We are committed to provide all sorts of necessary law and order support for holding the election in a free, fair and credible,” said RMP Commissioner Anisur Rahman.

He was addressing a view-sharing meeting with candidates of the election at the training complex auditorium of Rajshahi Sugar Mills today as chief guest.

A Total of 76 candidates, including six for chairman, 51 for nine general members and 19 for three women reserved seats, are in the election race.
There are 19,528 voters, including 9,678 females, to exercise their rights of franchise at nine polling centers in the election going to be held on July 17 after a 12-year gap.

Illustrating the aspects of successful election RMP Commissioner Anisur Rahman urged all the candidates and others concerned to abide by the election code of conduct to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the electorates in general.

He said five-tier security measures have been taken for making the polls free, fair, participatory, peaceful and acceptable to all.

There will be adequate force deployment in all election points as none will get any chance of creating anarchy and chaos relating to the election.

“We will not show any hesitation to bring the wrongdoers to book as early as possible,” he said adding the voters will get congenial atmospheres to cast their votes.

Commissioner Rahman said all the policemen will keep on high alert so that none can violate the election code of conduct. Foolproof security will be ensured in all the polling centres.

“We have taken all sorts of security measures to make the election proper and successful,” asserted Rahman.

Additional Commissioner Faruk Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Madhusudan Roy and Returning Officer Shahidul Islam Pramanik also spoke on the occasion.
