State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian distributed cheques amounting Taka 2.79 crore among 597 workers in the city on Tuesday.
The minister handed over the cheques as the chief guest to the labourers of Satkhira, Bagerhat and Khulna districts and their meritorious children as financial assistance for better treatment and higher education, allotted by Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation.
Monnujan said incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly for the economic development of all people including workers, employees of industries, mills and factories.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had established the Sramik Kalyan Foundation Fund for the socio-economic development of the workers, she said, adding that the government has distributed Taka 111 crore among 24,000 poor people, so far, from the fund.
Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments organized the programme with Md Mizanur Rahman, Director of the Directorate of Khulna Divisional Labour, in the chair.
Joint secretary of Ministry of Labour and Employment Md Mohidur Rahman, joint general secretary of city unit Awami League Md Ashraful Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) Sheikh Syed Ali, President of Khalishpur thana unit Awami League Sanahullah Nannu and its general secretary Sheikh Monirul Islam Bashar, among others, spoke it.
Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Dr. Nobin Kumar Howladar delivered the welcome speech. (BSS)
