Monsoon rains to start in Pakistan this week

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted monsoon rains in the South Asian country on July 3-8.

The weather office informed on Sunday that “moist currents from the Arabian Sea are likely to penetrate in upper parts of the country and a westerly wave is also likely to enter the upper parts of the country” resulting in wind/rain-thundershower with heavy falls.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of the eastern Punjab province and may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of northern parts of the country and hilly areas of northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on July 4-7, the PMD warned.

Heavy falls may also cause flash floods in hill torrent areas of Punjab and adjoining areas in the northeast parts of southwestern Balochistan province on July 6-8, it added.

The office advised the farmers to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast.

“Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell,” according to the PMD. (BSS/Xinhua)
