2 soldiers killed in clash with terrorists in SW Pakistan

Two soldiers were killed in an exchange of firing with terrorists in Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan province, a military statement said on Monday.

The incident happened on Sunday when the security forces were conducting a combat patrol against terrorists by acting on an intelligence tip-off in the province, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.

The terrorists were involved in firings on the security forces and civilians, besides planting improvised explosive devices in the area, the ISPR added.

“While the establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes was underway, a party of terrorists tried to ambush closing in patrol and opened fire onto security forces,” the statement added.

As a result of the heavy exchange of fire, two security personnel, including an officer, were killed, while another soldier got injured.

The follow-up operation to nab the perpetrators of the attack continued in the area, said the statement.

The Pakistani security forces have intensified operations against terrorists across the South Asian country, and intelligence-based operations are being conducted to nab or neutralize them.

Earlier Sunday night, the ISPR said three terrorists were killed in a shootout with security forces during an operation in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. (BSS/Xinhua)
