Title aspirants Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Prime Bank Cricket Club made a winning start to the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) by securing comprehensive victories in their respective matches at different venues across the city today.

Sheikh Jamal vs Gazi Tyres

Put in to bat first, Gaiz Tyres were wrapped up for a miserable 167 in 47.5 overs with promising opener Ashikur Rahman Shibli the only one offering some resistance. The former Under-19 star hammered 89 off 133 with four fours and three sixes to help the side propel past the 150 runs mark.

The second best came from his opening partner Iftakhar Hossain Ifti. After the duo shared a 76-run partnership, Gazi Tyres tasted a sensational collapse to lose the rest of the wickets for just 91 runs.

Tipu Sultan triggered the collapse with 4-30 while Ripon Mondol snapped up 2-29.

Saif Hassan scored 45 while Yasir Ali was unbeaten on 44 off 32 as Sheikh Jamal overhauled the target with 168-4 in 31.4 overs.

Prime Bank vs Shinepukur

Prime Bank prevailed in the low-scoring affair, thanks to an economical bowling of pacer Hasan Mahmud who registered an envious figure—10-2-15-4.

After being asked to bat first, Prime Bank were bowled out for 196 in 47 overs, which raised a prospect of an upset but Hasan Mahmud’s bowling helped the side defend the total as they bundled Shinepukur out for 125 in 41.5 overs. No. 10 batter Arafat Sunny was the top-scorer for Shinepukur with 28 not out. Sunzamul Islam with 3-29 complemented Hasan’s effort.

For Prime Bank, highest runs came from also the No.10 batter’s. Nazmul Apu, the No.10 batter made team-best 40.

Mukidul Islam Mugdho snared 4-42 for Shinepukur but eventually Hasan trumped him to bring the victory for Prime Bank. (BSS)
