80 people sued for attacking policemen

Police today filed a case against 70-80 persons naming 12 leaders and activists of the left-leaning parties on charges of attacking policemen from the Anti-Rape Protest rally near Hotel InterContinental intersection under the city’s Ramna Police Station on Tuesday afternoon.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Khair filed the case with Ramna Police Station.

The 12 people named in the case are Bangladesh Chhatra Federation General Secretary Saikat Arif, 26, Bangladesh Chhatra Union Dhaka University unit president Meghmallar Basu, 28, and General Secretary Main Ahmed,  24, Chhatra Federation Dhaka Metropolitan President Al Amin Rahman,  25, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Eden Women’s College branch president Sumaiya Shahina,  25, Democratic Chhatra Council General Secretary Fahim Ahmed Chowdhury, 25, Jagannath University Chhatra Union leader Adrita Roy,  23, Arman 30, Hasan Sikder,  25, and Seema Akhter,  25, who are involved in Chhatra Federation politics, Richard, 26, who is involved in the Left student organization, and a young man named Aang Aang Marma,  25.

In the attack, seven policemen, including deputy and assistant commissioners of Ramna Division police, were injured.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramna Police Station Golam Faruk said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused. (BSS)
