Two new Trust Funds established at DU

Two new trust funds titled “Ayesha-Amirul Trust
Fund” and “Shaheed Sharafat-Mohammed Shahidullah Trust Fund” have been
established at the University of Dhaka(DU).

Retired Senior Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akhter handed over a cheque for Taka 10
lakh and Md. Abu Taher, brother of Shaheed Sharafat Ali and Mohammed
Shahidullah, handed over a cheque for Taka 15 lakh separately to the
Treasurer of DU Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed at a function at the
university’s VC’s Lounge to set up those trust funds.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman was present on the occasions as
the chief guest, said a press release.

Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr. Md. Abdus Samad, Biological Sciences Faculty
Dean Prof Dr. AKM Mahbub Hasan, Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker, Chairpersons
of different departments and donors’ family members were present on the
occasions.

Out of the income of “Ayesha-Amirul Trust Fund”, every year some financially
challenged students of DU Biological Sciences department will be given
scholarship.

Besides, out of the income of “Shaheed Sharafat-Mohammed Shahidullah Trust
Fund”, some financially challenged students of the Mathematics department,
applied mathematics department and the Institute of Statistical Research and
Training (ISRT) will be given scholarship.

Dr Akhtaruzzaman thanked the donors for setting up these two trust funds and
said financially challenged students will be highly benefitted by these trust
funds. The initiatives will also play an effective role in making inclusive
society as well as achieving Sustainable Development Goals, he added.

Mentionable, retired Senior Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akhter, a former student
of the DU English department, donated money to set up “Ayesha-Amirul Trust
Fund” to perpetuate the memories of her parents.

Besides, former teacher of the Institute of Statistical Research and Training
(ISRT) Dr. Mohammed Shahidullah donated money to set up “Shaheed Sharafat-
Mohammed Shahidullah Trust Fund”.

Elder brother of Mohammed Shahidullah and former Lecturer of DU Mathematics
department Shaheed Sharafat Ali was brutally killed by the barbaric Pakistan
Army on March 25, 1971. (BSS)
