School banking conference held in Rajshahi

A school banking conference was held here on Saturday with the main goal of making the school banking programme more popular and effective coupled with bolstering the government policy of spreading the banking services to the mass level for higher financial inclusion in the city.

On behalf of its Financial Education Programme, Bangladesh Bank (BB) organized the school banking conference with participation of the city’s school students sponsored by One Bank Private Company Limited.

Teachers and students from most of the high schools under 46 scheduled banks in the city joined the conference held at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad Auditorium.

BB Executive Director Rup Ratan Pain addressed the conference as chief guest, while BB Directors Niamul Kabir and Shamsul Arefin spoke as special guests with One Bank Head of Operation Mirza Ajher Ahmed in the chair.

BB Additional Director Soheli Afrin, General Manager of Agrani Bank Afzal Hossain, General Manager of Janata Bank Arun Prokash Bishwas, General Manager of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank Maksuda Nasrin and Deputy Director of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury also spoke.

In his remarks, Rup Ratan Pain said the school banking system is generating wide interest among students in creating savings habits to ultimately help them ensure financial security in future.

The main objective of the programme was creating a student savings mentality through opening school banking accounts.

Before the conference, a colourful rally was brought out on the city streets from BB office premises.

Hundreds of school students and officials of all scheduled banks in the city joined the rally that ended at the conference venue. (BSS)
