A volcanic eruption started on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland on Thursday, the third to hit the area since December, media reported.
Live video images showed glowing lava oozing out of a fissure illuminating a plume of smoke rising up under the night sky, while broadcaster RUV reported that the eruption began at 6:00 am (0600 GMT), about 40 minutes after seismic activity had started to increase in the area. (BSS/AFP)
