‘Ansar al Islam’ activist held in city

The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police arrested an active member of the banned militant group ‘Ansar al Islam’ Rabiul Hasan Rana alias Rana from the city’s Jatrabari area early today.

Superintendent of Police (media and awareness wing) of the ATU Mohammad Aslam Khan confirmed the matter to BSS, saying, on a tip off, a team of ATU arrested Rana from Matuail Pashcimpara of Jatrabari police station in the city at around 12:25 am.

Rana, 24, is an honors third-year student of Management Department at Demra University College, he said, adding that the ATU team recovered a mobile phone, two SIM cards and soft copies of 11 books on extremism from his possession.
Besides, a Dhaka court today put Rana on a one remand as the ATU placed him before court seeking a three-day remand for interrogation, said ATU sources. (BSS)
