57 surrendered extremists become self-reliant in Rajshahi

A total of 57 extremists, who came back to normal life after surrendering to the administration, have become self-
reliant during the last three years.

District administration had launched two projects one each in Bagmara and
Tanore upazilas for their rehabilitation together with making them self-
reliant through financial support from the government after their surrender
in 2019.

Most of the extremists who surrendered belonged to the outlawed “Purba
Banglar Communist Party”, “New Purba Banglar Communist Party”, “Nakshal”,
“Purba Banglar Sarbahara” and “North Bengal-based Kadamati”.

In 2020, they were given Taka 50,000 each. They were also given scopes of
farming fish, domestic animals and vegetables on 90 bighas of land in the two
upazilas.

The surrendered extremists are being rehabilitated through integrated agro-
farm projects with supervision of “Rajshahi Swapnachash Integrated
Agriculture Cooperative”, a non-government organisation.

The organisation has brought the extremists back to normal life leaving
behind their dark life through income-generating activities leading them to
self-reliance during the last three years. (BSS)
