Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country’s both the bourses– Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)– today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 9.46 points or 0.15 percent to 6,233.42. Two other indices also ended lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 1.65 point to finish at 2,089.90 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 1.08 point to close at 1,360.15.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 5,168.89 million which was Taka 4,437.88 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 332 issues traded, 132 declined, 34 advanced and 166 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

SEAPEARL topped the turnover chart, followed by ORIONINFU, BDTHAI, OAL and KBPPWBIL.

STANCERAM was the day’s top gainer, posting 9.96 percent gain while PRIME1ICBA was the worst loser, losing 9.90 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -losing 18.91 points to settle at 18,486.23 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX- shedding 12.03 points to close at 11,055.35.

Of the issues traded, 66 declined, 35 advanced and 99 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor. (BSS)
