AL pledges to continue support, subsidies for agriculture

Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina has
pledged to continue support and subsidies for agriculture and investment
support in agricultural materials to increase its production.

“If we are elected, support and subsidies for agriculture, i.e., and
investment support in agricultural materials to increase agricultural
production will continue,” she said while declaring her party’s election
manifesto in a city hotel ahead of the next parliamentary polls to be
held on January 7.

She said usable agricultural machinery will be made readily available and
accessible. Subsidy on agricultural machinery will be continued, the party’s
president added.

Commercial agriculture, biotechnology, genetic engineering, robotics,
artificial intelligence, nano-technology, including the development of rural
non-agricultural sectors and suitable strategies will be adopted to deal with
globalization, she promised.

She said particular emphasis will continue to be given to the modernization
of agriculture, technological innovation, and expansion of agricultural
research facilities.

Livestock productivity will be increased by 1.5 times by 2028, Sheikh Hasina
added.

Soft loans, necessary subsidies, technical advice, and policy support will be
provided to establish commercial dairy and poultry farms, increase self-
employment and alleviate poverty, she further said. (BSS)
