Gaibandha’s Sapmara union health centre administers 400 Santal women’s safe delivery

Sapmara Union Health and Family Welfare Center of Gobindaganj Upazila in the district ensured safe delivery of 400 Santal pregnant women in last few months.

The safe delivery was done under Santal Health Project being implemented by LAMB Hospital, an NGO of the American Santal Mission in Dinajpur with the financial support of UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), official sources said.

Project official Md. Shariful Islam told BSS that the safe delivery has been possible for cordial and coordinated efforts of all the staff of the project.

Earlier, the Santal pregnant mothers and their guardians were made aware about the benefit of institutional delivery in lieu of home delivery by the staff concerned.

Local public representatives, social workers and stakeholders were also involved in awareness activity to bring the Santal pregnant mothers under safe delivery program, Islam said.

A celebration function on the occasion of 400th safe delivery was held on the premises of the union health and family welfare center on December 02, he said.  (BSS)
