Four people with disabilities get wheelchairs in Rajshahi

A total of four physically-challenged people were given wheelchairs free of cost for making them self-reliant through removing their mobility problem in the city today.

Vice-president of the city unit of Bangladesh Awami League Shaheen Akhter Rainy distributed the chairs among members of Bijoy Protibondhi Unnayan Sangstha (BPUS) in Upashahar area as the chief guest.

BPUS President Abu Tareque Mukul, General Secretary Shahidul Islam and vice-president Nafiz Ahmed were present at the distribution ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen Akhter Rainy said the new wheelchairs will bring new dynamism in the life of the recipients through boosting their mobility power.

She said there is an urgent need for extending support to the physically impaired people instead of neglecting them.

The chief guest said the people with special needs should be given some additional privileges for their proper rehabilitation and family integration.

Shaheen Akhter also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul are working relentlessly for the welfare of the disabled people in society.

The present government has taken various programs including providing allowances to the disabled people, she added. (BSS)
