Man gets life imprisonment in C’nawabganj drug case

A court here on Wednesday afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug trading case.

The court also fined convict Abdul Matin, 33, son of Mofizul Hoque, a resident of Charpanka village under Shibganj upazila of the district, Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer two more years in jail.

Chapainawabganj Senior Session Judge Md. Adeeb Ali pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict.

According to the prosecution story, on a tip off, an operation team of RAB-5 conducted a raid at Kamlakantapur mango orchard of the upazila on August 8, 2019 and arrested Abdul Matin with 9,765 yaba tablets.

On the same day, sub-inspector Abdul Momin of RAB-5 filed a case with Shibganj Police Station accusing Abdul Matin and Alamgir under Narcotics Control Act.

Investigating officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Nuruzzaman Khan Manik of Shibganj Police Station submitted charge-sheet to the court against them on September 16, 2019.

After hearing the witnesses the court handed down the punishment.

Another accused of the case was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proved. (BSS)
