Calling for court proceedings suspension is “unheard of”: Alam

The state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam today said calling for suspension of the court proceedings is “unheard of” as numbers of global dignitaries recently sent a letter to postpone ongoing legal process against Prof Muhammad Yunus.

“Bangladesh’s judiciary is independent and the independent judiciary will take decisions based on evidence,” he told the reporters when he was approached to make a comment over the issue.

The state minister wanted to know whether there is any instance in the world where allegations against a person cannot be investigated.

“They (those who wrote the letter) can observe the (legal) process. They must have the guts and courage to accept the verdict,” he said.

He said those who joined in the call in favour of Prof Yunus are not doing proper justice to their own reputation.

Alam said that the government would welcome those who want to observe the due legal process.

He said Bangladesh’s judiciary is independent and the independent judiciary will take decisions based on proof.

“The government does not want to make any comment on an issue related to court proceedings,” he added. (BSS)
