Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University (KU)
Professor Dr Mahmood Hossain said we have to emphasize on safe and nutritious
fish production and more research is needed in this regard from the
university level.
“It’s not necessary to increase the production of fish only but fish farmers
should also be careful for its nutrition side by side safe fish production,”
he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest while releasing fish fries in the KU pond
in front of Kabi (Poet) Jibananda Das Academic Building of Khulna University
(KU) on Monday afternoon.
In accordance with the theme of ‘Nirapad Machhea Varbo Desh, Gorbo Smart
Bangladesh’ (The country will be filled with safe fish, Build the Smart
Bangladesh) various kinds of safe fish fries (pona) were released in the
pond.
As part of the countrywide fish fries release programme, Fisheries and Marine
Resource Technology (FMRT) Discipline of KU, and District Fisheries Office
jointly organised the programme in various water reservoirs of KU.
“It’s a great feeling to release fish in the pond. It has been proved once
again that we are the Bangalis living on fish and rice. The need of our
protein is being met through fish. For this reason, the fisheries sector has
contributed a lot,” the VC said while delivering a brief speech there.
Treasurer of KU Prof Amit Roy Chowdhury and acting registrar Prof Khan Golam
Quddus, head of the FMRT Discipline Prof Dr Md Golam Sarwar and district
fisheries officer Joydep Pal, among others, were present. (BSS)
