One held with 26-kg ganja in Rangpur

Police arrested a presumed drug trader with 26 kilograms of ganja from a passenger bus last night at Bijoler Ghunti point on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway in Kawnia upazila of the district.

“On a tip-off, police searched the Dhaka-bound bus from Lalmonirhat there and seized the ganja from the bus,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kawnia police station Muntaseer Billah told reporters this afternoon.

During the search, police arrested alleged drug trader Farhadul Islam, 30, son of late Sekendar Ali of Gutirgor village under Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district.

“A case has been filed against detained Farhadul Islam under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 with Kawnia police station in this connection,” the OC said, adding that the arrested person was sent to jail when produced before a Rangpur court today. (BSS)
