Efforts underway to control Gazi Auto Tyres Factory’s blaze

The devastating fire has been breaking out at the Gazi Auto Tyres Factory in Rupganj upazila here since last night while
firefighters so far could not bring it under control for the last 15 hours.

“The fire broke out at the five-storey building behind the tyre factory
around 9pm on Sunday and the firefighters rushed to the spot at 10.35pm
…But the fire is yet to come under control,” said Lima Khanam, control room
in-charge of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.

A total of 11 fire fighting units from Demra, Kachpur, Adamjee EPZ and
Kanchan fire stations rushed to the spot and tried to douse the blaze.

“Fire fighting activities and rescue operations are facing difficulties due
to infrastructural problems and huge flammable materials amassed inside the
factory,” said Fire Service Headquarters Media Cell Official Talha Bin Jasim.

After the arrest of former minister Gazi Golam Dastigir Gazi, also Chairman
of Gazi group, haphazard looting was committed at the factory and many people
were trapped inside at the time. (BSS)
