China, Canada to continue support in development of Bangladesh: Salehuddin

Adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Commerce Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today said that China and Canada will continue their support in the development of Bangladesh.

“We have talked with the ambassadors of China and Canada. We urged them to continue their technical and financial supports. They assured us that they would do more than they usually do,” he said.

The adviser said this while responding to the journalists’ questions after a meeting with Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen and Canadian High Commissioner Dr Lilly Nicholls at the secretariat here.

Responding to a question, Salehuddin informed that the decision to withdraw Tk1,000 banknotes would not be easy.

“I haven’t said anything about it, so I won’t comment on rumours. This matter falls under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Bank,” he added.

Regarding whether the agreements signed with China in July would remain in effect or be reviewed, he said, “There was no discussion on that. We will discuss these at the high level. We haven’t cancelled or done anything yet. These matters will be discussed in the cabinet.” (BSS)
