6 killed as ambulance catches fire in Faridpur’s Bhanga

At least six people were killed as an
ambulance bursts into flames after hitting the roadside railings of Dhaka-
Mawa-Bhanga Expressway, near Bhanga Maligram area around 10:55am today.

The driver of the ambulance was rescued in a critical condition and taken to
Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.

Bhanga Upazila Fire Service sources said the bodies were burnt beyond
recognition and so their identities could not be known immediately.

Ziarul Islam, Bhanga Thana Officer in-charge (OC) told BSS that, “We rushed
to the spot soon after being informed, but little could we do as the bodies
were already charred…It is suspected that there were six people.”

While asked about the reason behind the accident the official said, “Police
is looking into the matter. We hope that the identities of the victims will
be found out soon.”

Due to the road accident, the traffic on the road was halted for nearly two
hours. Fire Service and Police personnel are working to clear the congestion. (BSS)
