Stocks extend gaining streak

Country’s both the bourses–Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) today witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the key index of the DSE, went up by 123.72 points or 2.30 percent to settle at 5497.56. Two other indices also closed higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 38.40 points to finish at 1951.34 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose to 22.14 points to close at 1208.70.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 7707.06 million on the country’s premier bourse which was Taka 5392.77 million at the previous session of the week.

Of the 396 issues traded, 365 advanced, 14 declined and 17 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also edged higher with the CSE all Share Price Index – CASPI- rising 20.18 points to settle at 1110.22 and the Selective Categories Index-CSCX- gaining 185.52 points to close at 9315.06.

Of the issues traded, 31 declined, 199 advanced and 17 issues remained  unchanged on the CSE trading floor. (BSS)
