Additional Commissioner (Traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Munibur Rahman today said that the bus-terminal based surveillance teams will take immediate action if excessive fare is realized from the passengers instead of the fixed fare.
He said this while briefing reporters about the preparations of DMP’s traffic department over the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha at DMP’s media center here.
The DMP additional commissioner said that on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, the holidaymakers will have to get on and get off the buses inside the terminal.
No passenger can get on and off the bus outside the terminal, he added.
The public transport can not carry more than the fixed number of passengers, he said.
He urged all not to carry passengers on the roof of the transports risking their lives.
Long-distance transports will not be able to pick up and drop passengers within the metropolis, he said, adding that the authorities concerned of the owners and employee will ensure the fitness of the public transport.
No empty trucks or pickups will ply on any long route carrying passengers, he strictly warned.
Replying to a query of the journalists, Munibur said that if the buses plying in the Dhaka metropolitan area carry long-distance passengers, the number plates of those buses will be videotaped.
“Strict legal actions will be taken against those buses in future. Even arrangements will be made to cancel the route permit of these vehicles,” he added.
Noting that motorcyclists must wear helmets while traveling long distances, he urged them not to carry extra goods and take more than two passengers on their motorcycles.
He also asked the bikers to check fitness of motorcycles before beginning their journey.
Several DMP senior officials and print and electronic media journalists were present on the occasion.(BSS)
