American Corner Rajshahi at Varendra University here today organized a vibrant celebration in observance of the World Environment Day with the main thrust of raising environmental awareness among school-level students.
Salient features of the event were: engaging activities such as quizzes and art competitions, underscoring the importance of environmental education.
Participants from different schools passionately echoed the call to “Go green, breathe clean- World for a Future Nation and protect your environment from pollution.”
Prizes were awarded to the winners of the art and environment awareness-related quiz competitions, and 100 tree saplings were distributed among the students to encourage reforestation and environmental stewardship.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police of Rajshahi Range Bijoy Basak, Professor Dr Boni Adam from University of Rajshahi and Executive Engineer of Bangladesh Power Development Board Anowar Hossain Jewel spoke on the occasion.
Fahmida Akter, in charge of the American Corner Rajshahi, welcomed the participants.
Among others, Alumni of International Visitor Leadership Program Subrata Kumar Paul, Program Coordinator of the Center for Development Initiative and Research Haimanti Paul and Rethink Team Leader Monirul Islam Sabuj were present.
Various innovative ideas to conserve the environment were showcased.
Students were overwhelmed pledging to develop themselves as conscious citizens and do their best to save the environment.
The discussants unequivocally called for addressing environmental pollution and climate change, highlighting the impact on human livelihoods and biodiversity.
They also underlined the need for increased public awareness to protect the environment.
This year, the theme of the day says, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” It’s tied in with bringing back healthy land, keeping desserts from developing, and managing water shortages. Trees, healthy soil, and clean water are imperative for a solid planet.
American Corner Rajshahi is the largest American Space outside Dhaka and plays a pivotal role in engaging local youth to become leaders and change-makers.
The World Environment Day celebration is a part of their ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility.
