Khulna distressed people to get 1,461 tones rice before Eid

The government will distribute a total of  1,461.38 metric tones of rice among 1,46,138 distressed families in the district ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme, the rice has been allotted against 1,46,138 VGF cards of 68 unions in the district.

Officials of the district relief and rehabilitation said the ministry of disaster management and relief has allocated the rice for distribution to the poor and distressed families in all nine upazilas and two Pourashavas in the district.

“The upazila administrations with the assistance of local public representatives and union-level committees have already started distributing the rice to listed VGF card-holder families,” said District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Md Abdul Karim.

Each family is geting 10kgs of rice under the programme, he added.

Besides, 46.21 tonnes and 30.81 tonnes of rice are distributing among 4,621 and 3,081 cardholders of Paikgachha and Chalna Pourashava respectively.

Meanwhile, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will distribute 15,500 clothes including sharee and lungi as Eid gift among 15,500 distressed people in 31 wards of KCC. (BSS)
