Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution
(BSTI) today filed cases against owners of nine brick kilns for running those
in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur without quality certification/standard
mark licenses.
“We filed the regular cases with the cognizance court for Chirirbandar
upazila of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dinajpur,” BSTI’s
Divisional Deputy Director (Metrology) and Head of the Office Mafiz Uddin
Ahmed told BSS.
The cases were filed against Messer’s NN Bricks, Messer’s R&S Bricks,
Messer’s RA Bricks, Messer’s DOWA Bricks, Messer’s TS Bricks, Messer’s MR
Bricks, Messer’s Hamid & Sons, Messer’s RL Bricks and Messer’s S. N. Bricks
located at different areas of Chirirbandar upazila.
Production, sale and distribution of clay bricks and brick products were
continuing in these brick kilns for a long time without obtaining standard
certificate/standard mark license from BSTI.
“Consequently, we conducted operations at the brick kilns, warned the owners
and gave some time. However, they did not obtain quality
certification/standard mark licenses of BSTI within the stipulated time,”
Ahmed said.
He said BSTI is working with the aim of preventing adulteration in food and
products and ensuring accuracy in weight and measurement.
“In this continuation, the country’s National Standards Body (NSB) conducted
operations recently in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur like other areas of
the region,” Mafiz Uddin said, adding that such operations will continue in
public interest in the future. (BSS)
