Petitioner fined for concealing facts regarding brick-kiln

Abdul Kader, a petitioner of the writ made
against a kiln in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district terming it as
‘illegal’, was fined Taka 20,000 for concealing facts.

A High court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Razik Al Jalil
discharged a rule issued in this regard earlier and passed the order, as the
court found that the petitioner filed the writ despite of knowing that the
kiln had a legal license, environment clearance certificate and necessary
documents.

“The court has ordered him (petitioner) to pay the sum to the respondent
within 30 working days from today,” Advocate QM Sohel Rana, lawyer of the
respondent, told BSS.

Kader, also a resident of Jugirkandi area under Chauddagram upazila of
Cumilla, filed the writ saying that the kiln was illegal and was hazardous
for the environment.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary, Director General (DG) of
Department of Environment (DoE), kiln owner Md Nadim and seven others were
made responders in the writ. (BSS)
