Cabinet committee recommends extending Eid holiday by one day

The Cabinet Committee on Law and Order today recommended extending the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday by one day to make the journey of homebound people smooth.

After holding a meeting in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the secretariat here, Minister for Liberation War Affairs and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order AKM Mozammel Haque told media that the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order has recommended one more holiday on April 9.

The minister said that this recommendation will be presented in tomorrow’s cabinet meeting to decide whether the holiday can be extended by one day or not.

“We have said that if Eid-ul-Fitr falls on April 11, then the people will get only one day to go home. Therefore, traffic congestion may increase, which will increase the suffering of the people. So, we will recommend whether April 9 can be considered as a holiday,” he added. (BSS)
