Everyone should work with a patriotic zeal to free the society from drugs for building a developed smart Bangladesh by 2041 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure a brighter future for the next generation.
The opinion came today at an anti-drug discussion arranged for inmates of Rangpur Central Jail to motivate them in becoming rectified and start a new life leaving drug trading and drug abuse after their release.
The Rangpur Central Jail authority and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) jointly organised the discussion participated by inmates of the jail having previous records of drug trafficking, drug trading and drug abuse.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Rangpur Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen as the chief guest attended the event after visiting Rangpur Central Jail.
With Senior Jail Super of Rangpur Central Jail Prashant Kumar Banik in the chair, Divisional Additional Director of the DNC Md Ali Aslam Hossain addressed the event as a special guest.
Ali Aslam Hossain said most of the inmates living in the jail are passing their most valuable youthful times for wrongdoings they committed through drug trafficking, drug trading and taking drugs due to lack of knowledge.
“And thus, you (inmates) have mistakenly destroyed yourselves, your families and society and caused damages to the state resulting to unwontedly suffer in the jail,” he said.
He suggested them not to be disheartened and become good citizens after their release and start income generating activities like small businesses or any legal activities to earn livelihoods and bring up their children properly.
“Like every citizen, you (jail inmates) have to work with a patriotic passion to serve yourselves, your families, society and the state for leading a dignified life in the future developed and smart Bangladesh,” he added.
The chief guest said time has come to free the society from drugs through implementing the government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs to build a developed smart Bangladesh by 2041 next.
“We have no time to waste. Everyone should work to build a better society in the smart Bangladesh where citizens will get all services online using modern technologies,” she said.
“We must save our youths and young generation from drug abuse to build a smart Bangladesh,” she said, suggesting the jail inmates to work with patriotism after their release and lead a life with dignity. (BSS)
