Nordic countries will strengthen cooperation on climate issue: Saber

Environment, forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury today said Nordic countries will strengthen cooperation on environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development issues.

The minister underscored the need for further enhancing collaboration in sharing technologies for climate adaptation and mitigation, promoting renewable energy sources, and supporting Bangladesh’s efforts to implement its climate actions.

Saber Hossain came up with the issues when ambassadors of the Nordic countries – Alexandra Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden in Dhaka; Espen Rikter-Svendsen, Norway Ambassador to Bangladesh; Christian Brix Moller, Ambassador of Denmark in Dhaka; – met Saber Hossain Chowdhury at his office here.

During the meeting, he asked the Nordic countries to work together to conserve Bangladesh’s rich biodiversity and address challenges such as deforestation.

He stressed sharing expertise and technologies for air, water, and soil pollution control, and promoting waste management solutions.

The Nordic ambassadors reiterated their commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s environmental goals and expressed their interest in exploring new avenues for collaboration.

They commended Bangladesh’s leadership in addressing climate change and its efforts to promote sustainable development. They also invited the Bangladesh Environment Minister in Nordic day in the next month.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both sides to work together to address environmental challenges and build a more sustainable future for Bangladesh and the world.

Later, a United Nations Office for Project Services delegation, led by its Bangladesh Country Manager Sudhir Muralidharan, called on Environment Minister Saber Hossain and discussed different UN ongoing projects and how they can work together with the ministry. (BSS)
