Lightning strikes kill 3 in Khulna

Three people were killed and four others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes at Dacope upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Azizul Sheikh, 62, son of late Abdur Sattar Sheikh, a resident of Kakrabunia village and Sujit Mondal, 33, son of Krisna Mondal, of Kalabogi village under Dacope upazila and Khorshed Sheikh, 60, a resident of Paikgachha upazila of the district.

Police said Azizul got struck by lightning around 7.00am when he was working at a shrimp gher (enclosure) at Kalbogi village.

Local people rushed him to Dacope Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, acting UNO of Dacope upazila Papia Sultana confirmed to BSS today.

Besides, Sujit Mondal and his four accomplices were struck by lightning around 10.30am in Kalabogi river while they were netting fish. Sujit died on the spot while his accomplices were rushed to Dakop Upazila Health Complex, Officer-in-Charge (OC-Investigation) of Dacope Police Station Sheikh Shahinul Islam said.

Khorshed Sheikh was killed by lightning strike today morning while he was netting fish, the OC said. (BSS)
