A court here has sentenced one person to life-term imprisonment in a drugs case.
The court also fined him Tk. 50,000, in default, he has to suffer two years more in jail.
Chapainawabganj Senior session judge Md. Adeeb Ali pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict yesterday as the court, in another section of the case, awarded him two years more imprisonment and fined him Tk. 10,000, in default, 15 days in jail.
The convicted person was Md. Shahriar Kamal Dalim, 35, son of Md. Mesher Ali of Hajarbighi Uttar Chandpur village under Shahbajpur union of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district, the court sources said.
According to the prosecution story, a team of 59 battalion of BGB, on a tip off, raided a shop at Poragram Lakkhinarayanpur intersection in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on April 14, 2021 and arrested Dalim.
Later, as per his statement, BGB recovered 2.105 kg of heroin and 374 yaba tablets.
On the same day, Nayek Subedar Md. Renu Mia of Rohonpur BGB filed a case with Chapainawabganj sadar thana against Dalim.
Investigation officer (IO) of the case SI Md. Tajul Islam submitted the charge sheet against him to the court on November 30, 2021.
After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment. (BSS)
