18 brick kilns sued for not having certification mark licenses

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has filed regular cases against the owners of 18 brick kilns for illegally running those in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur without quality certification/standard marked licenses.

“We filed the cases with the cognizance court for Parbatipur upazila of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dinajpur during the last one week,” BSTI’s Divisional Deputy Director (Metrology) and Head of the Office Mafiz Uddin Ahmed told BSS this evening.

The cases were filed against Messer’s SP Bricks, Messer’s Badsha Manufacturing, Messer’s AR Bricks, Messer’s Bari Bricks, Messer’s HM Bricks, Messer’s JS Bricks, Messer’s Khushi Super Bricks, Messer’s DR Bricks, Messer’s MA Bricks, Messer’s Mokarm Super Bricks, Messer’s MSB Bricks, Messer’s Royal Bricks-2, Messer’s RV Bricks, Messer’s SA Bricks, Messer’s Shafi Bricks, Messer’s Samata Bricks, Messer’s Bari Bricks and Messer’s Haque Traders Bricks of the upazila.

“We had been getting allegations of continuing production, sale and distribution of clay-bricks and brick products illegally without obtaining the BSTI’s quality certification/standard mark licenses for a long time,” Ahamed said.

“Accordingly, we conducted operations at the brick kilns last week, warned the owners and gave them some time. However, they did not obtain quality certification/standard mark licenses for BSTI within the stipulated time,” he said.

Mofiz Uddin Ahmed also said BSTI is working with the aim of preventing adulteration in food and products and ensuring accuracy in weight and measurement.

“In this continuation, operations were conducted in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur last week,” he said, adding that such operations of BSTI will continue in the public interest in the future. (BSS)
