Signal 2 for maritime ports

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla

and Payra have been asked to hoist signal number two as the severe cyclonic
storm ‘MICHAUNG’ over the West central Bay and adjoining area moved north-
northwestwards further.

“The Severe Cyclonic Storm “MICHAUNG” is likely to move North-northwestwards
and may cross South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam
today,” said a special weather bulletin issued by the BMD this morning.

“Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the cyclone centre is about 90
kph rising to 110 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near
the severe cyclone centre,” it added.

“Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been
advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two. All fishing boats
and trawlers over the North Bay and deep Sea have been advised to remain
closed to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice,” the
bulletin further added.

However, a separate sea bulletin predicted that rain with thundershowers is
likely to occur over the North Bay and adjoining areas under the peripherals
of the severe cyclonic storm ‘MICHAUNG’. (BSS)
