Achieving SDGs through evaluating women’s domestic works underscored

Speakers at a function here underscored the need for achieving sustainable development goals(SDGs) through evaluating women’s unrecognized domestic works.

“A rural woman spends 16-18 hours a day engaged in household and agricultural work, but her work is not valued. The challenges faced by women in performing various responsibilities for the family, society and all, need to be taken into consideration seriously”, they said.

They made the observations while addressing a post rally discussion at the hall room of Fulchhari Junior High School under Fulchhari upazila here yesterday.

SKS Foundation, a north Bengal based development organization arranged the function marking the International Rural Women’s day under the project of Community Based Resilience Women’s Empowerment and Action. It was arrnged under the financial support by the Embassy of Sweden in cooperation with Manusher jonno Foundation with the financial support of the Embassy of Sweden.

This years’ theme of the day was “Rural Women in Climate Resilient Agriculture and Food Security”.

Presided over by Nargis Akhter, member of Climate Action Group, the function was also addressed among others by Union Parishad member Abdul Malek, member of school managing committee Abdul Barek, school teacher Rawshan Ali, member of Climate Action Group Amitan Boya spoke while its project coordinator Lovely Khatun moderated the function.

Though the rural women have the much contribution to produce climate resilient Agri crops, achieve food security, their contribution is not valued, they also said.
They called upon all the concerned to pave the way for women’s empowerment by realizing and recognizing the importance of these works.

Later, prizes were distributed to the winners who participated in the essay writing competition marking the day.

Similar programmes were also held at Fazlupur char of the upazila at the initiative of the organization.
