Fire guts shops, houses in Rangamati

At least 20 shops and five houses were gutted in a fire at Baitta Para Bazar in Langadu upazila of the district early today.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of the Baitta Para Bazar around 3.30am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops and houses. As a result, 20 shops and five houses were completely gutted, the team leader of Langadu Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defense Md. Salim said.

Being informed, Langadu Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen after efforts of two and a half hours, he added.

A list of fire victims has been completed and assistance will be provided to the victims, Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Barek Sarkar said. (BSS)
