987 landless families to get Asrayan houses in Khulna

A total of 987 landless and homeless families of the district will get houses under Asrayan project-2 on Wednesday as a gift from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the handing over ceremony through a video conference from her official residence Ganobhaban and will connect with ‘Barasat Sonar Bangla Palli’ under Terokhada upazila in the district around 10.00am on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khulna Khondokar Yasir Arefin today disclosed it in a press briefing at his conference room.

The inauguration ceremony will be aired through BTV link at all upazila parishad auditorium of the district, he said, adding that members of the beneficiary families, freedom fighters, peoples’ representatives, government officials, political leaders and local journalists will present at ‘Barasat Sonar Bangla Palli’ during the inauguration ceremony.

Commander of City unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad Professor Alamgir Kabir, deputy director of Local Government of the DC office Md Yousup Ali, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) S M Munir Linkon, additional deputy commissioner (Education and ICT) Mukul Kumar Maitra and Khulna Press Club President S M Nazrul Islam, among others, were present at the press briefing.

DC Arefin said, previously the Prime Minister handed over 3,936 houses to the landless and homeless families in the district till March 22, 2023 marking the ‘Mujib Barsho’, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The government will provide remaining 451 more houses to the landless and homeless families as part of its campaign to bring all such families under the housing scheme in Khulna.

It was also conveyed in the briefing that the landless rehabilitation activities were done with the active monitoring and supervision of Khulna district administration and zero tolerance policy against corruption was taken during the selection of beneficiaries. (BSS)
