The 39th National Table Tennis Competition was inaugurated today at Chattogram Rifles Club in Chattogram.
Chattogram City Corporation’s former Mayor and Chattogram District Sports Association’s general secretary A J M Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the meet.
Energy and Mineral resource division secretary Dr Khairuzzaman Majumder was present in the opening ceremony as the chief guest while Chattogram District commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzam was present as the special guest.
Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation’s (BTTF) president Mejbah Uddin presided over the opening ceremony.
Organised by BTTF, under the management of Chattogram District Sports Association, the competition will continue till July 29.
A total of 230 players — 113 men, 43 women, 46 boys and 28 girls — from five divisions, twenty eight districts, three services teams and one university team across the country are taking part in the competition.
The five divisions are Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet.
Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP and Biman Bangladesh Airlines are participating from the services team while Bangladesh Engineering University will compete from the university.
The competition will be in men’s team event, women’s team event, men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, boys U-18 singles and girls U-18 singles events.
Chattogram District Sports Association, UCB Bank and Polar Ice Cream are the sponsors of the meet. (BSS)
