DMP Commissioner apologies for his recent remarks on rape

Against the backdrop of widespread criticism, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today apologized for his recent remarks on rape.

Speaking as the chief guest at the recent event, he reportedly urged the media to refrain from using the word “rape” in their reports, suggesting alternatives like “violence against women” or “repression of women”.

“During the discussion on violence against women and children, I termed rape as repression in a broader aspect. I apologize if anyone was offended by my statement,” the DMP Commissioner said in a statement issued here today.

Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of the DMP, Mohammad Talebur Rahman signed the statement. (BSS)
