Dhaka, Tokyo discuss PPP focusing 3rd terminal, railway, road transport

Dhaka and Tokyo today reviewed the progress of projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) platform, focusing on the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Terminal-3 project and cooperation in Bangladesh’s railway and road transport sectors.

The discussion was taken place when a Bangladesh delegation, led by Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraz Uddin Miah held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Vice-Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Hirofumi Amakawa at the ministry in Tokyo, according to a message received here.

The Bangladesh delegation informed the Japanese side that preparations for cargo and ground handling operations at Terminal-3 are advancing rapidly to facilitate the terminal’s swift inauguration.
Principal Secretary Miah assured Bangladesh’s full cooperation in expediting the project.

During the meeting, detailed discussions also took place regarding the Kamalapur Multi-Modal Transport Hub, MRT Line 6, and the Dhaka Outer Ring Road-2 and 3 projects.

Bangladesh further sought Japanese cooperation to attract investment in its tourism sector.

Assistant Vice-Minister for Engineering and Housing Affairs of Japan Yosuke Tsutsumi and senior officials of the ministry were also present at the meeting.
Senior Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Md Ehsanul Hoque, Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan, Chief Executive Officer of the Public-Private Partnership Authority Muhammad Rafiqul Islam and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali were in the Bangladesh side.

The meeting underscored the growing partnership between Bangladesh and Japan in infrastructure development, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhancing cooperation. (BSS)
