Rajshahi Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (RWASA) is always committed to maintain integrity in all its service delivery activities particularly water supply for betterment of the service recipients.
Zakir Hossain, Managing Director of RWASA, said they are persistently working with the vision of establishing a sustainable and smart water management system through ensuring transparency, accountability and participation of all stakeholders.
He revealed this while sharing views with the journalists about RWASA’s ongoing activities and development projects at his office conference hall here today.
RWASA Managing Director Zakir Hossain said there is a need for enhancing water bill for proper adjustment between earning and expenditure. As an autonomous and state-owned entity the RWASA has to be self-dependent through increasing revenue earning.
He told the journalists that they earned revenues worth Taka 12.10 crore against the expenditure of 17.44 crore per year.
He, however, said they have no intention to increase financial pressure on the clients in general but they have to reduce the existing gap between the earning-expenditure ratios.
Zakir Hossain sought cooperation of the journalists to mitigate the problem as they have a vital role towards sensitizing the public in general on the issue.
RWASA Deputy Managing Directors SM Tuhinur Alam and Md Allah Hafiz, Chief Engineer Parvej Mamud and Executive Engineer Sohel Rana also spoke on the occasion.
Chief Engineer Parvej Mamud said they are selling 6.69 crore liters of water to over 5.24 lakh populations through 110 production pumps and 800-kilometer pipeline network.
They are also going to implement a mega project titled ‘RWASA Surface Water Treatment’ with an estimated cost of Taka 4,062 crore aimed at removing the existing water supply related problems through supplying safe drinking water among Rajshahi city dwellers.
Rajshahi Wasa authority has already signed an agreement with a Chinese company to implement the project–to increase the surface-level water supply by reducing Rajshahi’s dependence on groundwater.
Another project styled “Water Supply System Rehabilitation in Rajshahi City Project” is also being implemented aimed at improving the life standard of the people through supplying safe water at present. (BSS)
